Michael L. Messer is a partner with Schenck, Price, Smith & King, LLP and a member of the firm’s Business Law Department . Mr. Messer is also the chairperson of the firm’s Commercial Restructuring and Workouts Practice Group. Mr. Messer’s experience includes negotiating and structuring a variety of real estate and corporate transactions, including all types of commercial leases as well as restructuring and workouts. He also has represented both public companies and private entities in the acquisition and financing of real estate and other business assets. Currently, Mr. Messer represents numerous financial institutions in loan and credit enhanced transactions. Mr. Messer has extensive experience with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, representing the Authority as bond counsel for more than twenty-five years. His expertise includes privately placed debt and various types of publicly issued bonds, tax-exempt bond financings, LDFF transactions, SBA 504 loans and pool loan transactions. In such transactions, his clients have included lending institutions, underwriters and trustees as well as developers, investors, individuals and business entities. Mr. Messer serves on the Advisory Boards of Sovereign Bank and Oritani Savings Bank. He is a past president and current member of the Senior Counsel of the Board of Governors of the Industrial and Office Real Estate Brokers of the New York Metropolitan Area, which encompasses commercial real estate firms in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. After completing his accounting degree at McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, Mr. Messer received his law degree from Rutgers University and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
